This is one of the most startling realities of our healthcare systems.  It is absolutely unacceptable for death rates for hospital infections to be in the several thousands in a country that supposedly has some of the highest standards of health in the world.  What angered me the most in what I heard in this interview was the degree of arrogance some doctors have regarding their subordinates reminding them to follow proper infection preventing protocol.  These physicians took an oath to practice medicine in the best interest of the patient, and not following protocol is absolute hypocrisy.  For the sake of patients everywhere I hope upper management in our health systems strictly enforce infection prevention policies, stressing accountability for their doctors and nurses.
