Study suggests too many invasive heart tests given -

What is described in this article is exactly the reason why our president is pushing hard for health care reform. Medicare is being exhausted by the excess of billable tests that doctors order without regard for the necessity of these tests for their patient. Doctors deserve to be paid well for the type of work they do but they shouldn’t be milking a failing system. They should be improving ways to better determine which patients need angiograms. In the long run it will have a positive effect on our health systems.
A 'silent epidemic' for teenage sports injuries -
I read this article on Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s Blog today and it concerned me. I realize that athletics are valued with a high regard by kids, parents and society, but at what cost?
The sad fact is that most of these kids getting injured would not have played at the high college or professional level regardless of how healthy they were. Is all the physical wear and tear on our youth worth that near impossible goal of reaching the big time?
The other day one of my friends had sarcastically asked me whether I had been working out upon seeing my arms. I’ve always been ok with being skinny but the fact that people are noticing my lack of muscles made me feel much more self-conscious. However, beyond simple appearances I have realized that my skinny state could actually be approaching unhealthy. I check my body mass index (bmi) yesterday and discovered that I am in the normal weight category, however leaning more towards underweight. After seeing this I have decided to start working out. I have done some research and have devised a three day full body routine to build some muscle (see below). In addition I realize that I’ll need to start eating breakfast and and increase my intake of protein.
